Reporting to the Tribal Homeownership and Construction Advisor, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for providing overall maintenance and custodial service for the offices and grounds of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe including general custodial services, snow removal, repair and assembly functions. Responsibilities include the coordination of all maintenance activities conducted at the Tribal Headquarters.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform routine cleaning tasks such as mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and scrubbing in order to keep Tribal offices clean and in professional appearance. Provide custodial services to Tribal offices in accordance with a work schedule recognizing however, that priority need may necessitate amending the schedule. Ensure that bathrooms are continuously kept clean. Monitor efforts of Tribal staff to recycle appropriate material and ensure that recycling receptacles are easily accessible and emptied regularly. Make rounds to empty wastebaskets at least daily. Monitor material that is discarded by staff to ensure that any Tribal property that is destroyed is inventoried with property and procurement staff. 

Monitor working conditions to ensure that they are safe for employees (e.g., blocked exits for fire escape, sharp objects in pathways, ventilation, etc.) and report any unsafe working conditions immediately. Provide priority attention during the winter months to keeping all outside walkways and entrances clean of snow, ice, standing water, or mud. Assemble and maintenance of various types of office furniture to include moving of office furniture that is purchased by Tribal programs. Ensure that maintenance supplies are purchased on a regular basis. Maintain a storage room for cleaning supplies and maintenance materials making sure that appropriate items are inventoried. Maintain appearance of Tribal grounds by mowing, shoveling, trimming, pruning, watering, and painting as necessary.  Schedule outside contractors to provide maintenance services for the Tribe (electricians, plumbers, etc.) as requested. 

Regular attendance is an essential aspect of the position.

Qualifications

Prior experience in maintenance and custodial required. Knowledge and experience in basic principles of custodial work and safe work practices. Must be able to interact with outside contractors (electricians, plumbers, etc.) who provide maintenance services for the Tribe and the public in a professional and courteous manner. Must possess and maintain a current valid driver’s license and auto insurance. Background check required.
